Comicon Challenge 2009 | Smooth_Criminal | Lara Croft
Update 31 - 08 - 2009

Final Submission:

Update - 28-08-2009

Update - 18- 08 - 2009 Final Highpoly

Hey People.. little late but again the drive of making comic characters brings be back to the challenge this year.. Awesome works going around . I am doing Lara Croft, a futuristic version of her.. its more like she kinda got teleported in a few hundred years in the future and she is making use of the gear that she can to her advantage... I am really inspired Vadim's Domiance War entry and his video tuts were very helpful to give me an idea how I can do my own character.

Here is what I have on it so far.. Started from zspheres, tweaked the base in max and sculpted the body.. Did base mesh for the accessories going around her. The arms, hand, head are very WIP.. Let me know what you all think so far.. C & C most appreicated

Looking great. the legs may be sweeping back just a bit too much. Great work creating all sorts of cool details for sub tools. This is going to be a very interesting model. Nice way to do a take on lara without it just being lara clone. The head could use a little work, but i imagine you know this. Also it'd be cool if the boots looked like they had some purpose rather than just being "future boots". check out the boots that are going along with the army's enhanced soldier project.

Hey, looks grear! my only crit is that you could make her nose more subtle, a little bit smaller.

WOW!! When I saw the basic mesh setup you had, I had no idea it was gonna look like this later on! Absolutely LOVE this design. I despise lara croft, but the design you're going with is freakin awesome.

Now for crits. The Nose is a bit sharp, and large, but that's nothing too bad, adds some character too an otherwise cookie cutter idea. I really think you should give those hands a lot more love, they're looking too knobby and arthritic right now. Adjust how the fingers are, cause right now they look dislocated, and kinda wrong.

BTW, you gonna give her a pony tail coming out of that hood? ( please please please)

Cool concept !!!
I agree with all on the nose : you could rework this part.
I think the eyes looks a lil bit creepy too (tired by her adventures ?! ), trying to give them more whrma
Anyway, body, accessories and stuffs looks great so far, can't wait to see next improvements

awesome awesome awesome concept. You can't go wrong choosing Lara "Kick-ass" Croft. Everything is looking awesome so far.

One crit: the nose makes her look a little..."Russian?" Maybe not Russian, but less like I expect Croft's nose to appear.

On the Great Nose Debate of 2009, I'm siding with ReplicA. Sure it's bigger then she usually has, but it gives her more character I think. No more perfect Barbie doll Lara.

But so far I'm loving your take on the character, nice to see her change a little bit .

The nose is definitely not Lara Croft's, noticeable especially in the profile. Pls give her that long ponytail as per Replica. Love your sculpt otherwise with all those details and I'm looking forward to your next update!

Thanks a lot for the replies .. I agree I have to get the nose right .. a smaller petite one would be definitely better.. also as mentioned I have to give more love the hands.. Right now I am taking a break from the organic modeling and started doing the hard surface stuff.. I am not really good with that so wanted to do that out first.. its going slow but making some progress. I will definitely get back and fix the nose and the hands.. Thanks all

Here is the update .. I worked the arm device which kinda shoots "Iron man" hand projectiles.. and some working the top and armor around the top. Let me know what you all think..

Thats the iron man projectile mechanic I am thinking off.. its kinda always folded in the arm.. and opens up when lara wants to shoot out stuff through it. Let me know if its not fitting with the overall thing..

I'm not a fan of the ripped bra that has metal on it in the front. I would think having metal attached to a simple cloth would just rip right off it. A hard material that wouldn't fray the way the bra is would make more sense. IMO anyway.

I'm liking the whole redesign idea!
